Initially when you think of oak flooring you assume it is solid wood but there are not only different species of Oak flooring but different styles, for example you can get Laminate Oak Flooring, Engineered or semi solid and solid. The laminate of course, offers a less expensive alternative but is only a photographic print on mdf.  It does however offer a good choice and wide range.

 

If you want Oak made from wood then you are looking at solid or engineered.  These vary in thickness and range.  Originally Oak was used as furniture and or flooring but usually from the country of origin.  With the development of multi country trading us now sees it coming from China, Russia, France, Hong Kong and the UK.  Surprisingly Oak from the UK is often more expensive than from for example China but has a better quality finish.  It is a good tip to remember this when buying oak flooring.

 

There are a variety of finishes for example, laminate,  as you would expect everything available in real wood is also available in laminate even block style - which first made an appearance in Tudor times  or around the 1920’s and is small pieces of wood laid traditionally in herringbone style.  Those Oak floors made from wood are infinite in their finishes and colours, from light brushed and oiled oak, through, red oak, Lacquered, hand scraped,  waxed, rustic, stavepatterned, one plank, light finished, mid finished or very dark finished anything is available and new choices are always arriving.
