This is the highest grade containing predominantly heartwood but containing some sapwood.   And provides a floor with a generally uniform appearance.   Allow for small burs and equivalent characters such as tight checks and it will be as the timber produces.

Method of Laying:               Floated on concrete.

Storage

Leave the flooring unopened in a dry room.   Make sure it lays horizontal on a straight surface.   The room should have a temperature of 18 – 22 ° C and a relative air humidity of 45 – 60 %.   In order to acclimatise the wood, the packages should be stored in the room that it is to be laid at least 48 hours prior to installation.   The flooring should remain in its packaging until the installation process starts.

NOTE: Do not install boards with obvious defects.   If you spot any faulty boards, please separate them out and contact Atkinson & Kirby.   The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for defects due to incorrect installation or boards with defects that have been installed.

Room Climate

During installation the relative air-humidity should be between 45 – 60 % and the room temperature between 18–22 ° C.   These room climate conditions should be met during storage, installation and also later whilst using the floor.   Especially during any heating periods, the problem of lower air-humidity should be faced by placing plants and/or using an air humidifier.   Otherwise cupping and gaps may appear.   The manufacturer is not responsible for such gaps.

The Subfloor

The subfloor needs to be flat, dry, clean and solid.   If necessary you should fix unlevelled spots with putty.   The floor-humidity for concrete subfloors must not be greater than 2.0% CM (1.8%CM with underfloor heating) and for anhydrite-floors not greater than 0.5% CM (0.3% CM with underfloor heating).   For floating installations you need to put a (at least 2.5mm strong) Polyfoam underlay between the subfloor and the flooring.   The underlay should be installed butting together and can be joined with tape.   For impact sound insulation we recommend a 3 mm Floortech Gold underlay or fibreboard insulating panels.

Underfloor Heating

Platinum Clic flooring can be installed on a subfloor with underfloor heating.   Ask Atkinson & Kirby for separate installation instructions when laying hardwood flooring on a subfloor with underfloor heating.   In this case the surface temperature of the floor must not exceed 27 ° C.   During heating periods were the air becomes dry, gaps may appear (beech and maple are known for this).   These gaps are no reason for claims.   Installations on electric underfloor heating systems are not allowed.

Fixed Gluing To The Subfloor

It is highly recommended that the gluing of Platinum Clic to the subfloor should only done by a professional fitter.

Colour Change of Wood Species / UV Impact

Wood is a natural, living resource, and colour may change over time (especially when exposed to sunlight).   Some wood species might have deposits, which could change colour in sunlight.   This is nature.   Again this is not a reason for claims.

Cleaning and Care

Pre-Finished Platinum Clic comes ready from production plant and does not need time consuming work like sanding and sealing.   The Multiple UV hardened sealing makes Pre-Finished Platinum Clic an easy to maintain and very hygienic floor.   Normal cleaning can be done with a broom or a vacuum cleaner.   If necessary you can also use a well wrung out mop or rag and Atkinson & Kirby or another approved cleaner.   DO NOT WAX.   DO NOT USE TOO MUCH WATER.   Beech is especially sensitive towards too much humidity.   Spots and liquids are to be removed immediately.   Dirt and water should be avoided by using doormats at all entrances.   Avoid walking on the floor with high heels.

NOTE: Solvent and ammonia can damage the seal.
Laying

Begin in one corner and work from left to right with the tongue sides of the boards towards the wall.   The gap between the long side and the wall can be adjusted later when three rows have been laid.   Remember that it is often simpler to start the row of boards at the door.

1.              Press the next floorboard in at an angle against the first.   Continue in the same way along the rest of the first row.

2.              Cut the last board of the first row to the correct length and begin the next row with the left over piece.   The end joints between boards must be staggered by a minimum of 500 mm (Min 300mm or 1.2m boards).

3.              Press the floorboard in at an angle against the board in front.   Using a knocking block, lightly tap the board while pressing it down.

4.              Push a laying wedge in under the end of the board already laid.

5.              Press the end of the next board into position at an angle.

6.              Using a knocking block, tap on the long side while carefully pressing the board down.   This will locate it more easily.

7.              Remover the wedge after laying one complete row.

8.              The gap between the floor and the walls can be adjusted when three rows have been laid.   Place wedges between the floor and the wall.

10. The first row sometimes requires adjustments to suit a wall that is out of true.   Draw the contours of the wall on the floorboards then detach the boards in the first row by gripping the long side and pulling upwards while tapping gently against the joint.   Saw along the line you draw.

11.            Then replace the sawn floorboards from left to right.   Push the end in first and then long side as described in points 5-7.   Place wedges between the floor and the wall.

12.            Drill holes in the boards for radiator pipes.   The diameter of the holes must be at least 20 mm bigger than the pipe.   Cut out according to the illustration.   When fitting the boards, glue and cut out in position and cover the holes with pipe collars.

13.            If you need to trim an architrave use a floorboard as a guide to get the correct height.   If you need to tap the boards lengthways use an end off cut to protect the joint.

14.            The last row of boards must be cut to the correct width.   Rest the last board on top of the last but one row of boards, offset towards the wall by about 5 mm.   Mark where the saw cut should be.   Lay the cut board.   Do the same with the next one.   Fit the skirting boards without trapping the floor.

15.            If necessary you can lay the boards from any direction.   Platinum Clic is also easy to take up; this helps when laying at doors.  

16.         Proceed as follows if it is not possible to angle a board in under the architrave or low radiator. A. Cut away 2/3 of the locking edge. B. Glue. Push the board into position. Platinum Clic cannot be laid on against the long side.

Important Do's and Don'ts

Routine Maintenance

Dirt and Grit are the enemies of all Wooden Floors. Make sure that a sturdy doormat is in place both inside and outside all exterior access doorways. Sharp objects can damage your floor. Always protect the floor by using felt pads on furniture legs.

Don’t forget that pet’s claws can also scratch and damage the floor.

Vacuum and Damp Clean

Use a Vacuum cleaner on a daily basis. This will remove Dirt and Grit and save it from scratching the floor surface. For more thorough cleaning use a damp mop or cloth with a light spray of Atkinson & Kirby Finitec Cleaner. Remember, you must never use too much water on wooden floors. Standing water should be removed immediately.

Stains

As with all floor coverings stains should be removed whilst they are still wet. After removal of the stain, wipe the floor with a clean damp cloth.

Repairs

Small nicks and scratches can be touched up using our colour-matched fillers. For slightly larger areas a small amount of our Touch-Up sealer can be mixed with the filler. In the case of larger areas of damage the floor can be sanded and resealed. Only a suitable expert should carry out this type of work.

Re-Sealing and Rejuvenating

After a period of time you may find that in some areas (entranceways, high traffic areas etc.) the floor starts to look dull. In the first instance use Atkinson & Kirby’s Finitec Refinisher. For best results this should be used with our Refinisher Applicator.

With correct maintenance your Hardwood Floor will give many years of use, adding a warmth and beauty.
